Lucy McRae

Lucy McRae is an Australian artist straddling the worlds of fashion, technology and the body. As a body Architect she invents and builds structures on the skin that re-shape the human silhouette. Her provocative and often grotesquely beautiful imagery suggests a new breed; a future human archetype existing in an alternate world
Trained as a classical ballerina and architect her work inherently fascinates with the human body. The media call her inventor, friends call her a trailblazer. Either way, she relies on instinct to evolve an extraordinary visual path that is powerful, primal and uniquely Lucy McRae

These body distortions are often uncomfortable and grotesque but beautiful at the same time. Lucy McRae has been an inspiration for us, despite not being fashion based. She explores the body in a non-narcissistic way expressing an emotion through covering the body in inanimate objects that become living breathing constructions.
Her work has recently been picked up by Nick Knight (high end fashion photographer), and transformed into a hybrid of fashion and body architecture. This type of hybrid is really exciting, as online fashion magazines break down barriers between categories of photography, there is more room for crossing boundaries and making new genres.
