Editing down the final shoot

First Edit:

Joint First Edit:

These are all the clips that we have picked from the 81 clips we shot on the day. The initial first edit is to sort through what we have and pick out a rough edit that we will then narrow down again.

What we’re looking for:

1. The dress itself should be distorting the body, and producing more feminine lines.
2. The dress and model must be the focus of the image, not the surrounding rocks and cliffs.
3. The background must contrast with dress without stealing focus. For example the sharp rocks contrast with the soft and delicate fabric.
4. The model must not be ‘posing’ in a narcissistic manner. By this we mean she should be in a stance appropriate to the movement of the dress, as opposed to being a clothes hanger for the dress.

8:

We are both interested in this clip straight away, it matches our criteria and the dress produces a really interesting movement.

10:

The model looks a little stiff in this clip, when the footage is looped in a cinemagraph this will only be exaggerated so we won’t be using this one.

15:

Again the model looks stiff, and the movement of the dress is too violent, it has a very aggressive movement and with these two elements combined I don’t think its a very pleasant image.

16:

This is creating a lovely profile, however its a shame because the hood isn’t quite in the right position, the lining isn’t at the edge of the hood. This may be a possible clip to use.

16B:

Same as number 16 but the model is looking down, this disengages her from the environment too much and makes her look too passive.

17:

This shot has great potential, it matches our criteria and there is a great intensity in her gaze. This ties in with our idea of non narcissistic fashion imagery, she is staring back at you, questioning why you are looking at her.

32:

This is a good example of how a bad pose can put the viewer off, this looks far too uncomfortable.

37:

We took some smoke bombs along as we wanted to experiment with an additional moving part to the cinemgraphs, but after testing this out we felt it was too distracting. Also in this shot the surrounding rock completely swallows the model and dress, the background is totally overpowering.

38:

Again the background is too much and the model is very stiff.

43:

This shot has some potential, it may be difficult to mask out certain areas with the smoke, and we may decide to cut the smoke out all together but it may be worth trying a cinemagraph to see what it looks like.

61:

This shape has potential, but the models face is obscured by the hood which looks odd because she is looking to camera, not strong enough.

61b:

Again a nice shape, but when looped the hood falling down will become the focus of the image and we don’t want that.

63b:

This shot definitely has promise, the extreme pose has created a beautiful s shape in the dress creating some very feminine, maternal curvy lines.
